Featuring You Friday {on Saturday}

Hi, my name is Taylor. I am a SAHM to two beautiful girls, Jayne (3) and Savannah (1) and wife to my wonderful hubby, Jared. In my former life I worked in both marketing and sales and still enjoy flexing those muscles helping out a few of my wonderful friends who run businesses out of their homes. But mostly, I’m on the go with my girls who keep me extremely busy!
In my {spare} time I enjoy reading (on my new Kindle Fire, eeek!), going to thrift stores & garage sales and crafting. I recently joined a stamp club and am obsessed with making paper cards. It’s a wonderful outlet and gets my creative juices flowing. Not to mention having this outlet allows me some much needed “me” time which makes me a better momma & wife.
On behalf of Jen I have been checking out the blogging world to see what you all have been up to. Here are a few of my fav’s this week…
This recipe caught my eye immediately. I love anything with cilantro in it. I can’t wait to try it!

A group of friends and I do a monthly freezer meal exchange and I’m always looking for new recipes. This one made my mouth water!

My parents have all my great-grandmother’s furniture and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I’m already gathering up ideas like this one!

It was so hard to pick my favorite crafts this week. But I finally narrowed it down to these…having two toddlers I am always looking for fun things to do with them. And my girls love anything they can use their hands {and feet} with =)

This sign caught my eye b/c I’ve been wanting to spice up my laundry room and something like this is just the ticket. Plus, it allows me to get crafty!

This was the first year I actually put a wreath on our front door other than Christmas time. And now I’m obsessed with having something there for every holiday/season (much to my husbands chargin)!! I love this wreath for birthday months!

Hope you enjoyed my picks of the week! If you were featured, grab a button on the sidebar and start bragging!

Featuring You Friday. . .on Thursday

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Triad Retail Media for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hi Friends! Welcome to another Friday where I am featuring YOU! Yeah, I know, it’s not really Friday. But I have something else I want to share with you tomorrow so I thought I’d do FYF a day early. Last week I  made dinner for my parents and wanted to try some new recipes. So I headed over to my Pinterest boards to do some browsing. After just a few minutes I had my meal planned out. I called it my “Pinterest Dinner!” Those recipes turned out fabulous and they are the included in my FYF this week! But first I want to share with you a couple new products that I’m digging.

I recently had an opportunity to try out some products from Glade®. I received the new Glade® Expressions™ oil diffuser and new Glade® Expressions™ fragrance mist in the mail to review. I was excited when I opened the box and saw the new look of Glade®. The design of the products was trendy and modern, making it easy to display them among the other decor in the house. Definitely a step up from the  Glade® products I remember.

The new Glade® Expressions™ oil diffuser is spill-free and requires no electricity so you can put it in any room, any where!    I love that the diffuser actually looks like a decoration and will fit right in with my other home decor! I received the Pineapple & Mangosteen fragrance which I am loving! I’m not kidding when I say that I when walk in the room and get a whiff it makes me happy. Probably because it reminds me of a tropical place! And because the diffuser scents will last 30 days, the scent is still as strong as it was on day one!

The other product I received was the new Glade® Expressions™ fragrance mist in Cotton and Italian Mandarin. I love the sleek design of the easy to spray, refillable container. You simply squeeze the bottle to release the scent. I put mine in the bathroom to quickly cover up, well, you know what! The fragrance is clean and fresh, but not too overpowering for my tiny powder room. And the bottle is pretty enough that I don’t have to hide it!

Glade® Expressions are available in these fragrances:

  • Pineapple & Mangosteen {LOVE this one}
  • Cotton & Italian Mandarin {mist only}
  • Fuji Apple & Cardamom Spice
  • Lavender & Juniper Berry

Glade® Expressions™ offers fragrance satisfaction guaranteed or your money back. Just mail the original UPC and receipt within 30 days. {Fill out form here if unsatisfied.}

Be sure to get your coupon for $1.50 off of any Glade® Expressions™ that can be used at Walmart to take advantage of their everyday low price!

Okay, ready to see my Pinterest Dinner along with my other picks of the week?

First course: Autumn Chopped Salad

I know it’s not Autumn, but this salad looked to good to pass up! The recipe can be found at Espresso & Cream. Two things I did differently: used blue cheese and champagne gorgonzola vinaigrette dressing.

Main course: Creamy White Chicken and Artichoke Lasagna

Yes, this tasted as good as it sounds {and looks}! For the recipe, visit One Good Thing.

And for dessert: Banana Coconut Upside Down Cake. Holy yumminess!

This cake tasted very similar to bananas foster! I served it warm with vanilla ice cream. YUM! You can find the recipe over at one of my NEW favorite recipe sites, The Girl Who Ate Everything. Everything I’ve made from her site so far has been fabulous! And I’ve found them all on Pinterest!

Okay, a few more things I’ve found around Blogland that I want to try!

I love these fabric-lined mason jars from Que Linda.

You know I love a good knock-off!  Check out the original versus this Anthro-inspired floral vase at It’s Overflowing. {Shhhh. I like the knock-off better than the original.}

It’s been awhile since I’ve featured a good furniture piece. This desk makeover fabulous! You have to stop by Shabby Loco to see how it was done! You might be surprised! Hint: Annie Sloan and hot sauce!

You all know that I am cheap. I love a good deal. Better yet, I love a good knock off. Five Days, Five Ways  created these Anthropologie candle sticks for hundreds of dollars less. Yes, I said hundreds. You gotta go look.

I also love these cute hot chocolate dippers made by The Moody Fashionista. What a great idea for a gift or a pretty accompaniment for a hot chocolate bar!

Feature You Friday Best of 2011

Being that it is the first Friday of the new year, I thought today that I would re-post some of my favorites from FYF 2011. Here ya go!

I’m so glad I went back and looked at all my previous FYF posts! It reminded me that I have got to make these buffalo chicken nachos! You want the recipe? Go over to Will Cook For Smiles.

I’m still drooling over this piece that I featured in June! Ella Boo & Co. took an old, forgotten dresser {that was free} and transformed it into a great storage buffet with chalkboard labels.

In July 2011, I fell in love! I spotted this vintage card catalog at Maple & Magnolia. I am, and I told her so, 100% envious and not ashamed at all. I’ve been on the lookout ever since.

I gotta give a shout out to my buddy Natalie for her spray painted sofa back in September. Yes, that’s what I said, spray painted sofa! I’m sure you’ve seen it all over Pinterest but be sure to stop by Johnny in a Dress to see how she did it. Creative genius!

This was, by far, the coolest gossip chair I’ve seen! The color and the curves of this chair are so great! I haven’t seen one with this shape since. I found it over at June & Bear back in September.

Thank you Landee See, Landy Do for sharing this delicious recipe for pumpkin crunch! I made it shortly after she posted it and it was so good that I replace my Thanksgiving pumpkin pie with this dessert! Must try! A couple of things I did differently {because I always do something different} was use 2 cans of pumpkin add cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice.
Peppermint Crunch Truffles
I found these Peppermint CrunchTruffle on Pinterest and made several batches over the holidays. They are fantastic! You can find the recipe at  Bakers Royale. The chocolate center of these are so silky and they just melt in your mouth! I used a combo of semi-sweet and 60% cocoa and used Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses instead of Ande’s. Delish!
And there you have it! My favorite features of 2011! Food and furniture, go figure! I hope you all have  fabulous weekend!

Top Five Posts of 2011

It’s Friday again and today instead of featuring you, I am featuring ME!
I wanted to share with you the top five posts of 2011.
#1: The most popular post, by far was my Mod Podge summer clutch tutorial

I took an old patent leather clutch that I purchased at a garage sale for $1 and transformed it into a cute summery bag with fun fabric and rosettes. I didn’t know if my idea of adhering the fabric to the purse with Mod Podge would actually work, but as you can see, my attempt paid off!
I knew these boxes were cute when I bought them, but I had no idea how popular they would be on my blog! I have had so many inquiries that I am now making and selling them. I hope that soon (like, really soon) my shop will be up and running, but for now I am taking orders by email. {jen at scissorsandspatulas dot com}
#3: This is my favorite project. I took my hubby’s old childhood bed and transformed it into a headboard bench.

I busted my butt to finish this project for the first round of American Crafter, “Trash to Treasure.” It turned out exactly how I had envisioned it though. What I love best is the history behind it.

#4: After what seemed like an eternity, I finally revealed my painted kitchen cabinets!

The project from hell that took entirely too long was finally complete! Would I do it again, yes. The outcome was worth it. However, there are many things I would do differently knowing what I know now!
#5:  I had no idea what a big hit my simple kitchen canister labels would be!

A digital cutting machine and some vinyl was all I needed to transform inexpensive Wal-mart canisters into these lovelies. This is another item that will be available in my shop. I am currently taking orders and can customize the labels to suit your needs. {jen at scissorsandspatulas dot com}
Don’t miss out on $200 worth of giveaways that end tomorrow!
AMEX Serve (the newest way to transfer, exchange, and spend money) is giving one lucky reader $100!

Kodak Gallery is giving away $100!

Be sure to stop by those posts and leave a comment for your chance to win!

FYF and a winner!

I’m kinda sad that this will be the last Christmas FYF of 2011! How can it be Christmas already? Do you feel like time just keeps going faster and faster? Slow down!!!!! Please!
I sure have enjoyed all the holiday projects I’ve seen this year. I’m sad that it’s almost over. This is my favorite time of year. I love everything about it. The warm, fuzzy feeling the Christmas season brings. The lights. The music. The joy and happiness. The gratitude. The decorations, baking and delicious food. The excitement for my kids. The excitement of my kids. Family, friends and neighbors. Most importantly, the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ.
I love it all. There is something about Christmas that just seems to make everyone happier. I just wish this time wouldn’t flash by us so quickly. Here’s to Christmas 2011!
Need I say more? What a powerful statement! Thanks Vivienne from The V Spot for sharing!
I love this simple DIY tree skirt by Ten-sixty Bliss. I especially like that it only cost $7!!

I made these Peppermint CrunchTruffles, from Bakers Royale, last night to give to the ladies at my MOPS table this morning. YUM! There are Advent Calendars everywhere right now! I really like this “Countdown to Christmas Tree” over at Creative Juice. It’s a perfect centerpiece!

You know I love a great furniture makeover. This Mod Podge desk is no exception! Aren’t the colors fabulous? Stop by Too Much Time on My Hands to see how she did it.

Okay, I know that was just a few this week. But they were a few great ones, heh? I hope at least one of them gave you some inspiration!

FYF Thanksgiving Ideas

Hi friends! It’s Friday again already! And on Fridays, I feature YOU! Today I thought I’d share a few ideas for Thanksgiving. Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week? Jeez! Are you ready? If you are still searching for some last minute finishing touches, here are a few ideas for you.

Alright, I’ll start with the yummies! You know they are always my favorite!
I am a fan of anything with pumpkin. I love the flavors of pumpkin and spice!

So of course, these Pumpkin Pie Spice Buttercream Cupcakes look and sound amazing to me! Aren’t the little acorns cute too?! You can find the recipe over at Nothing But Country.

Gobble, Turkeys, Turkey Brownies, Turkey Cupcakes, Thanksgiving, Fall, Autumn, Holidays, Thanksgiving Dessert, Party, Two-bite Brownies, Chocolate frosting, Jimmies, Shortbread Cookies, Candy

And how ’bout these darling Two Bite Turkeys from the Seven Year Cottage? What a cute dessert for the kiddos!

If you want to create a few simple Thanksgiving decorations for your home to remind everyone of the occasion, here are some cute ideas.

I love this Thankful Banner  made by The Happy Scraps. It’s cute, simple and would add just the right touch to your dining room. Plus, it uses my favorite Stampin’ Up ribbon!

These Thanksgiving Place Cards  are darling! What an adorable way to decorate your table! Stop by Just Another Day in Paradise to see the tutorial.

I think this Thanksgiving subway art speaks for itself. You can download it for free at Summit Street Joy, print it and frame it for the Thanksgiving holiday.
And, to decorate the kids table, these Cornucopia Place Cards are cute and yummy! The trouble is, they may not want to eat anything else! Stop by Caramel Potatoes to see more.

Did you get a few ideas? I hope so!
A quick reminder. . .

How does Santa get into your house? If you don’t have a fireplace, explaining this to your kiddos might be kinda tricky! What if there was a special key designed just for Santa to get in on Christmas Eve? ON the back there is a poem that reads:
This key is very special, you see,

It will not work for you or me.
Hang is just outside your door,
And go to sleep, worry no more.
Close your eyes and close them tight!

‘Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!
I’m giving away one of these keys over at Tattered & Inked! Stop by to enter!

I hope you have a great weekend!

Featuring You Friday – Pinterest Style

Happy Friday y’all!
By now I’m sure many of you have heard of and are probably already addicted to Pinterest
Hello, my name is Jen, and like Pinterest way too much! But it’s not a bad thing, right? I mean it’s like subscribing to hundreds of magazines without a price tag. And, if you’re like me and rip out the pages to save, this is so much more practical {and convenient} means of storing all those ideas! Anyway, I thought today I’d do FYF – Pinterest style to show you some of the things I’ve pinned lately.
Pinterest Logo
I’ll start with a few pins that I’ve actually used this week!

This morning in MOPS we made a modified version of this Hot Cocoa Gift Jar

Here is the one I found on Pinterest.

Thanks to Crafty Scrappy Happy, I know what to do with it! You gotta check out her tutorial for how shed turned hers into storage “lockers.”

If you read my FYF posts, you know I love sweets!

So of course my mouth was watering when I saw this Moose Munch! Get the Harry and David knock-off recipe at Something Swanky.

Especially fried food! Stop by Chameleon Girls to check out this fried mac-n-cheese recipe!

Featuring You Fridays

Friday again already? That’s okay, I’ve been looking forward to this Friday! Guess where I’m headed tonight? I’m going to see Jason Aldean!

Mmmmm-mmmm! We got good seats too! {Remember, I’m a Southern girl!}

There is one thing of mine that I want to show you before I start showing off your stuff this week.

My craft room! I know, it’s not quite done yet. I also know, it’s been forever, but just about everything in this room is either handmade, sewn, painted or refinished, so it’s taking some time. Not to mention there were boxes and tubs of supplies that had to be organized. But, it’s getting there. And at least I have a space to work!

Alright, on with the show!

The first fabulous find this week. . .

I love, love, love this darling Clean and Sensible.

Okay, this next room is so cool and eclectic!

I love all the different colors, fabrics and styles in this room! See those cool, colorful candlesticks in the center of the table? Head over to Life as a Thrifter to check out the tutorial.
Now this is simple yet brilliant creativity.
Recycle old light bulbs by turning them into decorative vases! What a cool idea from In His Grip.

I have yet to create a gallery wall in my home. I Pinned this one for inspiration.

You have to go take a closer peek at this gallery wall from A Thoughtful Place. The balance of color is perfect and the hand print piece is darling!

I’ve been dying to try this stuff known as “milk paint.”

Saving 4 Six transformed a fouth-generation dresser into something really special using milk paint. This dresser has a great story to go along with it as well.

You know a Scissors & Spatulas’ FYF isn’t complete without a yummy treat!

I hope you enjoyed my picks of the week! Have a great weekend!

Featuring you Friday again!
First up. . .

I’d like to give a quick shout-out to Michele from the Scrap Shoppe. She was the one who inspired me to create my burlap pincushion. Thank you Michele for the inspiration and thanks so much for reminding me! 😉
It’s so hard to believe that it’s time to start thinking about decorating for fall! I’ve started seeing pumpkins all over Blogland this week!
I love these jute-wrapped pumpkins Jaime made during the hurricane. Stop by her site, That’s My Letter, for the tute.
All it took was one look at this photo to get me to this site for the recipe.

It reminds me of something my SIL, Ilke, would make. This recipe, for Chickpea Tabouli, Greek Meatballs & Pita, comes from 3 Pickles
Seriously, the food caught my eye this week! Oink, oink!
Look at this fresh Summer-ish Pasta Salad by Bev at Flamingo Toes. YUM! I kinda want to lick my screen right now. {TMI}

Because pink is my favorite color, I have to share this next one.

It’s a Pinkalicious party! I’ve heard little girls love this book! I love the adorable details of this party by Vixen Made!

I just had to share with you this adorable idea for the kiddos.

This Scrappy Color Book is a cute way to teach your little ones their colors! Stop by Oopsey Daisy to get the tutorial.

Scissors & Spatulas

I hope you enjoyed the features today! There are some seriously talented people out there! Everyone have a fun and safe holiday weekend! I’m headed to the lake for what will probably by our last boating weekend of the season. 🙁 sad

Welcome to Another FYF!

It’s Friday again my friends! Hope y’all had a great week!
A couple of things before we get onto the features.
#1 – We have an exciting new announcement about Southern B.L.O.G.S today! Find out how you can attend for free!
#2 – Are you In the Looop? In the loop is a sharing place to give and get inspiration. What’s so great about ITL is that you can find numerous examples of one particular idea you are looking for. How? In the Looop is organized by tags. You want to find some ideas for using Mod Podge? Just click the Mod Podge tag to get pages full of the best Mod Podge ideas out there! New invitations were just given out. I’ve got a couple. Let me know if you are interested!
Are you ready already? It’s Friday and I’m featuring YOU!

First up. . .

This super creative pie tin organizer by MaryJanes and Galoshes
I’m sure many of you have seen this around Blogland this week.

It’s Natalie’s spray paint sofa. Yes, that’s what I said, spray paint sofa! You have to stop by Johnny in a Dress to see how she did it. Genius!

I accidentally stumbled upon this next one.

It was so cute I just had to share it! It’s like a miniature version of a Shabby Apple dress! Stop by The Train to Crazy {and aren’t we all on it} to get the complete tutorial.
I think I must always veer toward the girly things because I don’t have a girl. But I will admit that my boys love digging in my make up drawer and pretending while I’m getting ready.

So maybe this felt make-up would be perfect for them! Just kidding, but isn’t it just the cutest? You can see more at Gluesticks.

I’m constantly on the lookout to update the decor on my deck.

I found some great inspiration from Tres Chere with this colorful outdoor

I found this clever party idea at In the Looop!

What a cute and clever way to serve drinks at a party! Stop by Liz Marie Blog to see more clever ideas for this party.

And of course FYF wouldn’t be complete without some delicious dessert!

Cranberry Orange Cupcake

We’ve all had the muffins, but what about Cranberry-Orange Cupcakes? Lady Behind the Curtain has the recipe for these mouth-watering treats!

That’s all folks! I hope you’ve enjoyed my picks for the week and please stop by both sites mentioned earlier.
{In the Looop}
{Southern B.L.O.G.S.}
Have a fantastic weekend!

FYF Sponsored by Handy Man, Crafty Woman

Today I want to give a shout out to one of my great sponsors:
Handy Man, Crafty Woman

Laurie, aka Crafty Woman, and her husband Rob, the Handy Man, started their blog in 2009. Married for 13 years, they have one son and live in New England.  Their current home is the third house they have renovated. Laurie enjoys scrapbooking, reading, taking photos and blogging.  Rob likes woodworking and tools, enjoys taking care of the yard, and hunting for antiques.  Their son, Handy Boy, is 10 and helps us with yard work and some smaller projects.  He even visits antique shops and thrift stores and has a small collection of old keys and coins!  They also collect vintage Fiesta Ware dishes.

On the blog, you’ll find renovation projects, both large and small scale, along with tips for using thrift store items to keep the cost down. One of their favorite projects was renovating the stairway. Another large project shared on their blog was the kitchen renovation. These posts show the ugly “before” kitchen, photos during the construction project, and more “after” photos.  Rob also refinished a kitchen island as a scrapbook table.
Besides renovation projects, Laurie also shares simple recipes, easy-to-implement organization tips and crafting projects.

I hope you’ll stop by Handy Man, Crafty Woman and pay Laurie and Rob a visit. There is a little something for everyone on their site!

Ugh, it’s been a rough week-after-vacation! Why does the week after always seem like we are being punished for indulging and taking a little R&R? Not fair!
I did have a little time to look around this week. Here are a few of my favorites.

The telephone booth is awesome, but that’s not what caught my eye about this post.

Nope, it was Lucy’s Lampshades burlap and metal magazine boxes that I admired. I purchased the same cardboard IKEA boxes with the intention of wrapping them in burlap {to match the burlap boxes I bought from IKEA}. What I didn’t know was that you could buy the adorable metal labels! Could have saved me mucho dinero at IKEA! Grrrrr!
I couldn’t decide which was cuter. . .

the shoes or the feet that are wearing them! You must stop by How to Nest for Less  to see how easy these adorable flops are to make!

I love everything about this next project! The colors, the fabric, the quote, all of it!
Tattered & Inked created this adorable art by printing on linen. You must stop by, not only to see how she did it, but to see what is under the fabric!
One of my favorite things at P.F. Changs? Lettuce Wraps!

But I’ve never tried to make them myself! I found these at Hungry Homebody and cannot wait to try them!
And finally, no FYF would be complete without some kind of dessert.

Check out these snickerdoodle cupcakes from The Farm Girl. Don’t they look delish? Stop by to get the recipe.

If you were featured today, I’d love for you to grab a button to spread the love!
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Can this sock monkey baby shower by Giggles Galore be ANY cuter?!
Sock monkey + good eats + darling details = one lucky momma-to-be 🙂

 Speaking of good eats… oh.my.word!

Kelli is a freak about cheesecake and I  all things Oreo so this is a perfect Lolly Jane dessert- we immediately bookmarked the oreo cheesecakes by Joyful Baker.

My mouth was salivating as I am looking at this Russian eggplant appetizer by Suburbs Mama!

Our older sis used to live in Russia so we’re going to make this and impress her 😉
Muah ah ha!  We mean, thanks for the recipe Suburbs Mama!

Before we leave we have to show just one more tutorial because this one is simply creative!  We love to see people think outside of the box and this is one of those projects… the Sisal hanging lamp by Too Much Time on My Hands.

She created this out of a handful of household products lying around without measuring!  Showoff! 😉

Featuring You Fridays

It’s Friday {again already} and that means I’m featuring YOU!
First I wanted to share a silly little picture with you. We went to buy some local peaches from Springs Farm and to eat their fresh, homemade peach ice cream. I happened to have my camera and took a picture of the boys at the table. They are both at that age now where you tell them to say cheese and they give you this
face. . .

Oh my word, they crack me up!

First up, yummy-liciousness! Yep, I just made up a word!

I think it describes these lemon raspberry cupcakes from Moments of Twenty perfectly!

Dang, the Tooth Fairy give dollars now? And more than one? I got jipped!

The Crunchy Mamacita created this darling monster tooth pillow after being inspired by another blogger, Her Hobby. Darling!

Colleen from So Much to Say used my summer wreath as inspiration to create her own version. I love her color choices.

We have all seen the old cheese plates with domes being transformed into cloches. Even I made one!

Look what I found at Cap Creations! It’s a dome turned upside down to make a pedestal bowl! Brilliant!
I saw this piece at a link party and couldn’t help but take a closer look.

The awesome lines in the drawers reminded me of the dresser I just refinished. This one comes from Life We Live 4. I love it!

And finally, this amazing nursery.

Stop by Five Days in Five Ways to see it in it’s entirety. It’s gorgeous!
If you were featured, share the love and grab a button!

Here are a few of my favorites from this week.

All I had to do was look at this photo to know I wanted some of these!
YU-HUM-MY! These are Coconut Macaroon Brownie Bites from Inside Brucrew Life. Stop by to get the recipe.
After my craft room is finished I’m going to give Little man #1’s bedroom a makeover. I sure wish I could use these colors.

JUST KIDDING! That would be wrong! But isn’t the color combo fabulous?! Stop by Oak Ridge Revivals for the befores and afters of this little girl’s room makover.
Oh, my, word. I just added a new board on Pinterest the other night called “Things I Want.” The first item I pinned for this board. . .
a vintage card catalog. I want one sooooo badly for my new craft room. Then, last night, I found this one at Maple & Magnolia. I told her I was 100% envious and not ashamed at all. Love it!

Just the other day, on my contributor post at Somewhat Simple, I told y’all about gathering lots of paint chips and taking them home to check them in the light of your room. But once you’ve narrowed it down and finally picked a color, what do you do with those paint chips?

The Crafty Scientist created this cool monogram art!
I’ve got Little Man #2’s birthday coming up so I’ve been on the lookout for party ideas.
Check out some ideas for a cowboy party from It’s Always a Party at the Sparklers. Fun!

Well, those are a few of my faves of this week. If you were featured, I’d love for you to grab a button!
