I’m off to SLC! See What’s in my Suitcase!

I can’t believe that the time is here. Today I’m leaving for SNAP, a conference for creators, shop owners and bloggers. I remember purchasing my ticket shortly after returning from Creative Estates and thinking that it seemed like forever and a day away! But here I am, on a plane, headed to Salt Lake City, UT! Eeeeeek! I couldn’t be more excited!

 Last year before I left, I shared with you what was in my suitcase.  I don’t usually post about fashion. In fact, I think it was the only time I ever have, but I got such a big response to it, that I thought I’do it again! Ready to see? Of course, I totally overpacked!

Outfit #1: conference day or evening attire

Multi-colored tank dress, black leggings, black ankle-strap sandals and black and silver floral accessories.

Outfit #2: conference day

White jeans, navy and white polkadot rayon tank, brown sandals and silver and pearl accessories.

Outfit #3: conference day

Turquoise & tan striped shirt, khaki linen pants, turquoise wedge sandals, turquoise and gold jewelry.

Outfit #4: an extra just in case

Coral and ivory striped shirt, denim capris, coral canvas shoes and gold jewelry.

Outfit # 5: for the plane

Red and white striped tank, navy blue cardigan, skinny denim capris, tan belt, red shoes and gold jewelry.

Outfit #6: conference day or evening attire

Coral red and blue  maxi dress, brown leather belt and sandals and gold & coral jewelry.

Outfit #7: evening attire

Tan and cream floral dress, black belt, black cowboy boots, gold and rhinestone jewelry.

SNACK! Hey, two of my roomies are pregnant!

I’m looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and soaking up lots of valuable information and inspiration for fun, creatie ideas!

 

Every Gal Needs a Cute Summer Clutch!

It’s hard to believe that summer is right around the corner! When the theme, Summer Fun was announced for this week’s American Crafter competition, I had so many ideas running through my head. But in the end, I knew this one was “it!” I have a couple weddings coming up this summer and I could really use a new clutch. Well, it just so happened that last weekend I picked up this brown, patent leather vintage clutch for a buck {yes, $1} at a garage sale.
I had a vision, an idea, a plan, but had no idea HOW or even IF it would work. So during my weekly trip to Hobby Lobby, I  picked out some super cute summery fabric and crossed my fingers, hoping for the best.
It was actually easier than I thought it would be! I just kind of figured it out as I went. And I think it turned out FABULOUS! Here is a peak. . . 
Now, here is how I did it. . .
First, I measured the fabric and cut it to size. I applied Mod Podge to the patent leather and placed the fabric on top to cover the purse {leaving a 1/2-inch bare at the top}, pulling tightly and smoothing out any bubbles. 

Now this was the tricky part. . . the sides and the top. I had no idea how to make the folds and edges look clean. But I did it! I applied the Mod Podge to the purse and really just wrapped it like a present, tucking and folding until it looked clean. 
After the fabric was secure and the undercoat of MP was dry, I applied a generous coat of MP on top of the fabric. It worked! Now to figure out how to decorate it. I had a couple of ideas in mind so while it was drying, I made the flowers.
Rosettes: {on the left} Cut a strip of fabric 3-inches wide. The length will depend on how large you want the flowers {the longer the strip, the larger the flower}. I used lengths between 1 and 2 feet. Twist the fabric somewhat tightly and wrap it around and around in a spiral fashion, securing with hot glue on the under side every other circle.
Layered Petal Flowers: {middle} Cut several flowers with 4 petals using different fabrics and sizes. Layer fabric flowers, beginning with the largest, a few at a time, securing with hot glue in the center and pinching to create shape. Basically you will “build” this flower, layer upon layer.
Arrangement: {far right} I then arranged the rosettes underneath and put the petal flower on top in the center.
A little measuring, cutting, Mod Podging {if that’s even a word}, folding, twisting and rolling and I had a FABULOUS summer clutch to take with me to those weddings!

It turned out even better than I thought it would! And Mod Podging the fabric to the patent leather worked like a charm! The best part? It cost less than $5! You can’t find a price like that at any department store!

Creative Estates, Here I Come!

You may remember back in February I entered a contest over at House of Smiths for a free pass to an event that was designed to bring creative people together for a weekend of fun, inspiration and friendship. Well by golly, I won that free pass to Creative Estates! I couldn’t believe it! Click here to read the post on that marvelous day when I found out I won.

So that was February and here we are already in the second week of April and CE is this weekend! In just one more day I’ll be on a plane headed to Chandler, AZ to meet and mingle with some pretty cool, creative gals!

This is my first trip to AZ! I wonder if anyone else is travelling from the East Coast?

Gosh, I’ve been so busy getting ready to meet these fabulous ladies! Shopping, packing, hair, nails, more shopping, more packing, yada, yada. I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had time to do much else. So I don’t have any new recipes or crafts to share with you before I leave on Thursday. Instead, I thought I’d share with you a few things that are in my suitcase. Just a few things, not all. But I did have to pack light because I really don’t want to check a bag.

So here ya go . . .

3/4 length sleeve red/ivory striped shirt with jeggings {Yes, jeggings! Never worn them before.} and brown sandals. 
Accessories: BIG red/gold ring, gold earrings and bangle bracelets.

Black floral baby doll silk dress.

Accessories: gold earrings and gold/turquoise bracelet
AND. . .

these cool black cowboy boots! {They look brown but they are black.}
Ivory/green silk tank, ivory short sleeve sweater,  ”holey” jeans and gold sandals.
Accessories: gold/shell earrings, gold bangle bracelets and gold/shell ring.

Black/ivory silk top with lace belt, skinny jeans and black suede boots.

Accessories: black floral bead necklace, black bead earing and bracelets, my favorite black onyx/diamond ring.

Shoot, I forgot to take a picture of my favorite dress I’m bringing. It’s the one in my profile picture. Oh well, I’ll just have to have a picture made in the dress and post it after CE. ;)
